Migraine Mini: Static

The near-constant hum of appliances, fluorescent lighting, HVAC systems, and other noises may be inaudible to most folks. A typically -functioning sensory system filters extraneous information. Folks who are neurodivergent -- those on the autism spectrum, who have ADD/ADHD, PTSD, or other neurobiological differences -- may be unable to filter out these sounds. My brain is a constant hum. I always have a low grade headache, which flares into full blown migraine attack a minimum of twice each month. In fact, when I painted this piece, I had just recovered from a three-ish day attack. I thank the weather and my hormones for that one.

"Static" 4×6 inch mixed media on canvas.

This series is as much about the issues of drug prices as it is about my life with migraine disease. My maintenance medication has a sticker price of $1200 per month. Why do they cost so much? I assume they are made of gold… so I crafted these little golden pills. So each of 30 completed works of art costs as much as one day of my migraine meds: $40
