Note: these two pieces are sold as a set.

These small pebble studies are part of a larger body of work titled “How Do You Hold a Memory,” painted during the spring and summer of 2022.

I live with neurological disease, and I care for a parent with dementia. As humans, we build routines, skills, and habits through repetition; it is these same patterns that degrade as dementia progresses. As I ruminated on the convergence of memory and identity, my attention turned toward the tradition of cairns, standing stones, and other intentional rock formations. Memory is both fleeting and resilient; what will be remembered when only the stones remain? To highlight this contradiction of my weird human experience, I painted steadfast stones with ethereal watercolors, representing solid minerals with transparent pools of pigment.

Sold individually, these pieces would be $65 each; because they look so great together, I am offering them for a slightly reduced price of $120 for the pair.

Each of these studies is painted with artisan grade, handmade watercolors on cotton paper, and finished with acrylic or metallic paint pen. Each 6x6-inch piece is matted and will fit in a 12x12 frame.
