These paintings are sold as a duo.

These earth-tone colored stone studies are part of a larger body of work titled “How Do You Hold a Memory,” painted during the spring and summer of 2022.

I live with neurological disease, and I care for a parent with dementia. As humans, we build routines, skills, and habits through repetition; it is these same patterns that degrade as dementia progresses. As I ruminated on the convergence of memory and identity, my attention turned toward the tradition of cairns, standing stones, and other intentional rock formations. Memory is both fleeting and resilient; what will be remembered when only the stones remain? To highlight this contradiction of my weird human experience, I painted steadfast stones with ethereal watercolors, representing solid minerals with transparent pools of pigment.

Each of these studies is painted with artisan grade, handmade watercolors on cotton paper. Collage elements are cut from hand-printed paper used in other collections or series; you can read more about that here. Each piece is matted and will fit in a standard frame.

These paintings are 5x7-inches and matted to 8x10 inches.

There is only one of each study available.
